What is JabbaJabba?
JabbaJabba is an on-demand, in-person language training service.

If your ambition is conversational fluency in a foreign language then you are in the right place. JabbaJabba is home to passionate native speaking language tutors (our “Language Gurus”) who are here to meet on your terms – at times, dates and locations of your choosing – and to discuss topics that are useful and relevant and to you.

Where can I find and enjoy JabbaJabba sessions?
JabbaJabba is currently operating in Central London only. However, we have ambitions to take the service to other locations. If you would like to request JabbaJabba in a new location, feel free to write to us at talk@jabbajabba.com.

How does JabbaJabba work?
Navigate to the home page or the learn page and select the language you’re learning / would like to learn, as well as the time, date and location you would like to meet. If you would like to, you can tell us a little about what you want to learn as well as your current level of the language and we will then match you with up to 3 available Language Gurus.

In addition to removing the hassle of finding native speakers on your own, our matching functionality encourages you to meet as many different native speakers as possible to keep your language learning and conversations fresh, “real world” and memorable.

Of course, if you would like to meet the same Guru each time, you can select this option through the platform too.

Can I search by teacher?
Not at the moment – we’re trying something new.

JabbaJabba’s booking system is “blind”. We believe, so long as you can ensure the quality of the language tutor (which we do by vetting each Language Guru before admission to the platform), the most important thing is that you can find someone to fit around your busy schedule and for the process to be as easy and time-efficient as possible.

We’re also building a notes field that will make it easy for your Language Guru to upload notes and / or recordings from your session to your profile. This means you can review what you learned at a later stage.

It will also help ensure continuity from one Language Guru to the next with all subsequent Language Guru able to see what you covered during your last JabbaJabba session.

Tutoring services usually work by the student contacting many individual teachers before you find one who can fit your requirements – it becomes a negotiation (“can you do Tuesday?”, “no, but I can do Friday”, “sorry can we re-arrange to Saturday?”).
In our experience, this is extremely frustrating, and we don’t like it. Every stage of learning should be as pain free and enjoyable as possible. With JabbaJabba, it is.

What is a Language Guru?
Language Guru is our term for our language tutors. They are all native speakers of the language they are teaching or have considerable experience teaching that language (5+ years and professional qualifications). They are all vetted, and we only select individuals who are friendly, engaging, patient and diligent. All are there to help you achieve your learning goals.

How long is a JabbaJabba session?
JabbaJabba sessions currently last for 1 hour. From our experience, 1 hour is the perfect length to maintain focus and engagement. If you’re engaged, you learn and retain more.

Can I rebook with a particular Language Guru?
Of course! If you’re very happy with a particular Language Guru you’ve already met with, you can meet with the same Guru again.

What will I learn in a JabbaJabba session?
We want you to have the right kind of language engagement. That means learning vocabulary about topics that interest you. It means learning language that is both useful and relevant from day one.

At the time of booking a session you will have the option to specify what you would like to focus on in your session (e.g. hobbies) and give an indication of your current level on a 1-10 scale. How exactly the session is run is up to you and the Language Guru.

What’s important is that you’re speaking your target language as much as you can. Our Language Gurus are there to help and encourage you to speak out and correct, refine and coach you to fluency.

At the end of each session, your Language Guru will typically write down any key words or phrases that came up in the session.

This is so that you can perfect what you learned at a later date. It also means that any subsequent Language Gurus will be able to start a new session knowing exactly your level.

We like to think of it as a more effective, organic syllabus.

I want to attend a session with a friend, is that allowed?
Of course! We are happy for you to attend the session with friends, however, JabbaJabba must be notified in advance via email (talk@jabbajabba.com). An additional charge of £5 per individual will apply.

Where do JabbaJabba sessions take place?
JabbaJabba sessions take place wherever you want them as long as they are in a public location (and, for now at least, in Central London).

Based on our experience, taking language sessions in a public location (coffee shops make for great settings) is extremely beneficial – the low level of noise, movement, and music helps spark conversation, keep you focused on the learning, and remind you that languages are a social tool.

If your specifically desired location doesn’t appear on our google maps selection, we would invite you to select a location as close as possible to that location, and you can discuss moving to a new location directly with your Language Guru.

How do I pay for sessions? When do I pay for the sessions?
JabbaJabba uses Stripe to process payments. In order to book a JabbaJabba session you will first need to register a valid payment card to your account.

Depending on what payment structure you opt for, we will debit your account as follows:

  1. After you have sent a booking request, we’ve matched you with a suitable Language Guru, and you have confirmed the you want to proceed;
  2. If you take advantage of the discounted bulk session packages, we will charge you for the full amount upfront, and you have access to the session tokens to use whenever you wish within a defined period:
a. If you purchase 5 sessions (the “Linguist” package), your tokens remain valid for 3 months from the time of purchase;
b. if you purchased 10 sessions (the “Polyglot” package), your tokens remain valid for a period of 6 months from the time of purchase.

How do I cancel a session?
Soon our system will let you cancel from within your profile login. However, until that functionality is finished, simply email talk@jabbajabba.com and let us know.

Is there a cancellation or amendment charge?
JabbaJabba does have cancellation charges, yes, but nothing major and only for good reason. Our cancellation / amendment fees are as follows:

You have a 10 minute grace period after confirming your session with one of Language Gurus where you can amend or cancel without any charge.

Please note that any amendments / change of time are subject to the same appointment cancellation policy as above.

Do you offer trial sessions?
We don’t offer free trial sessions at the moment (we want to ensure the Language Gurus are always fully compensated for their time), but may offer promotions from time to time.

However, your first JabbaJabba session costs £20.00 (20% off the standard individual session price).

How do I delete my account?
If you wish to delete your account, please e-mail talk@jabbajabba.com and advise us of this and we will delete your account from the system.

How do I reset my password?
After having logged in, in Account Settings you have the option to reset your password.

If you forget your password, you can also email us at talk@jabbajabba.com and we can manually reset your password.

How do I make a complaint / leave feedback?
We love feedback of all types and are eager to receive it. Please email talk@jabbajabba.com with anything you want to tell us, whenever – we are so keen to keep improving the JabbaJabba experience for all involved.

In addition, after every session, we request feedback from you as a learner to ensure that we are constantly improving the quality of our service.

What is your refund policy?
We strive to offer you the very best customer experience. Each of the Language Gurus on our platform have been vetted and has received tips and training in the conversational approach to coaching a language. As such, you can rest assured they will offer a high quality language learning experience.

If it’s your first JabbaJabba session, we offer you a 100% satisfaction guarantee in the event that you’re not happy with the service offered. All subsequent refund requests are treated on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us at talk@jabbajabba.com to discuss your particular request in further detail.

I bought a package of ten lessons. Will I get the same Language Guru each time?
If you’ve been matched with a Language Guru in the past and would like to continue sessions with them, we will endeavour to match you with them again in future. We are, however, unable to guarantee that you meet with the same Language Guru each and every time. Feel free to contact us directly if you’d like to discuss your particular circumstances and requirements.

What is your 100% satisfaction guarantee and how does it work?
If it’s your first JabbaJabba session, we offer you a 100% satisfaction guarantee in the event that you’re not happy with the service offered. We do this because we are extremely confident you will love the service.

booked multiple sessions at once. Do they expire? Do I have to give you advance notice before booking?
If you booked our Linguist package of 5 sessions, they are valid for 90 days. If you booked our best value, Polyglot package including 10 sessions, they are valid for 180 days. Please try to give us as much notice as possible when booking. We are unable to guarantee a Language Guru will be able to meet you at the time and place of your choosing.

How much do JabbaJabba sessions cost?
Your first JabbaJabba session is charged at £20.00.

All subsequent sessions cost £25 with discounts on offer for multiple sessions bought at once, as follows:

What is JabbaJabba?
JabbaJabba is a platform that facilitates on-demand, in-person language training in the London area.

Our aim is to have the very best in-person language tutors in London, to create a thriving language community, and to provide you with the means for easily scheduling sessions.

We market ourselves as a serious (and fun) service for serious learners. We want learners to get the most from their learning time with conversation, vocabulary and topics that are relevant to them.

What languages does JabbaJabba teach?
Currently, we offer the following seven languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German and Mandarin.
In future, additional languages may be added to the service.

How does JabbaJabba work?
JabbaJabba works by learners sending requests based on:

This request is sent out to all our relevant Language Gurus and it is up to you whether or not you want to do the session. If a session request doesn’t work with your schedule, there’s no obligation to accept!

Once you confirm your availability, your profile is sent to the learner; as soon as the learner confirms they are happy for the session to proceed, we will send you a confirmation email.

How do the sessions work?
